A word a day is a treadmill; you remember none of them. Parlance gives you one word a week — uncommon, precise, worth having — and leaves it with you long enough to use it. It arrives on Sunday evening as a quiet notification, and it waits.

Words from where you already listen

Pick a source: a show whose writing you admire, a novel you keep rereading, a podcast you never miss, or a text you paste in yourself. Parlance draws each week's word from the register of that source — the vocabulary it actually uses — so every word comes with a reason it matters to you.

Where the lines are on record — your own text, a show's quotations on Wikiquote, a book on Project Gutenberg, a podcast's published transcript — the app shows you the line the word came from, checked word for word against that document, with a link to it. Where no such record exists, it describes how the source speaks and shows no quotation at all. It never invents one.
